Diving Sites in Port Blair
The crown jewel of the Andaman Islands, Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep), is preparing to swoop under the azure waters of the Andaman Islands and host two opulent Guinness World Records attempts in May 2026. Havelock, known for its enchanting beaches, vibrant marine fauna and legendary dive sites, will now put itself on the global stage for a record-breaking underwater spectacle, which will make it a destination for one of the biggest marine tourism festivals of India. Put together by Havelock Island Beach Resort and Dive Andaman, this will witness tourism influencers, diving experts and adrenaline junkies unite to celebrate marine excellence, collaboration and island spirit.
The Largest Underwater Flag Unfurling at Radhanagar Beach, and the Tallest Human Stack Underwater at the iconic Light House Dive Site are just two of the record-breaking attempts that are sure to pique the interest of not only the tourism and travel industry, but also the dive community. This Guinness World Record in Andaman 2026 is more than a record-breaking occasion; it is a spectacular event for Andaman tourism, and an example of Havelock is the best scuba diving place in India. So, as the preparation for this exciting event begins, tourism professionals and travellers alike are asking, why is the new Guinness World Records event being held in Havelock Island? There are several reasons for this, including world-class diving, world record-breaking underwater visibility and the development of Havelock as a world adventure tourism hub.
When it comes to breaking underwater world records, there is always a cast of highly trained diving experts involved, and for this landmark event at Havelock Island, that cast is led by Dive Andaman. As one of the key players and operational partners in the Guinness World Record attempts, the team has been preparing for more than two months for the technical challenges of the two underwater formations.
Through the training of synchronization, buoyancy control and teamwork, as well as the practice of movements and safety protocols, Dive Andaman's preparation epitomises the experience and expertise necessary for such a challenge. Their role showcases both their expertise as professionals and the strength of the Andaman diving community in the world.
Guinness World Records (GWR) is the world's official record-keeping organisation. Founded in 1955, it certifies record-breaking accomplishments in thousands of categories across many fields of human endeavour, including sport, science, adventure, endurance, engineering and human achievement. Whether it's the world's tallest service station, the fastest runner or the most creative underwater sculpture, Guinness World Records celebrates people and teams for clocking up the extra kilometre, extra depth or extra time. For a destination such as Havelock Island, to hold a Guinness World Record event is a great privilege since it's an opportunity to take something that's world-class and make it world-famous.
Being recognised by Guinness World Records means an achievement has been:
Havelock Island has been chosen as the destination for this Guinness World Record attempt because of India's best underwater conditions. Due to its excellent clarity, non-turbulent turquoise water, some of the best dive sites in the world and a strong base of scuba divers, Havelock Island is the perfect venue for this type of event that includes complex underwater moves such as flag unfurling and human stack formations.
Other than being naturally beautiful, it's also considered the best scuba diving spot in the country, so it is the ideal location to showcase the marine tourism potential of the Andamans globally. The staging of the Guinness World Record here also places Havelock Island on the international adventure tourism map and showcases its aptitude to organise and execute multi-cultural events.

The first attempt to set a Guinness World Record is that of the Largest Underwater Flag Unfurling (the largest number of people), which some may believe to be a simple and easy event. This underwater performance makes for a simple sight to see, but to maintain this diving record and this feat requires high-level diving and coordination skills and great teamwork.
Flag diving is a form of underwater stunt diving where a scuba diver will bring a large waterproof flag to the ocean and open it, to stabilise, strengthen and keep formation underwater. Buoyancy, water resistance and currents make this event much more challenging and require precise coordination and expert diving. Record-breaking attempts involve a team of divers who work in perfect harmony to unfurl and stabilise the flag underwater, and put on an underwater show.
Divers must manage:

The second attempt at the Guinness World Record promises to be even more difficult, working underwater to form the Tallest Human Stack Underwater, which requires the stack of a perfectly balanced human tower underwater. This breathtaking challenge involves the buoyancy, coordination and cohesiveness of the divers, and is a highly technical underwater formation requiring much practise for the divers.
Human stack underwater, also referred to as a human "pyramid", is an advanced diving formation and is a series of divers stacked on top of each other to create a human tower underwater. The challenge is similar to a human stack on land, but with this challenge, divers learn to balance their buoyancy, breathing, alignment and the importance of the ability to control the balance between floating and sinking underwater in the ever-changing underwater conditions. This challenge is considered one of the hardest team (synchro) pool challenges (of stability).
Unlike stacking people on land, underwater stacking requires mastery over:
The Havelock Island Beach Resort, the official home of the Guinness World Record attempt in Havelock Island, is host to this record-breaking event and the only resort where visitors can stay close to the epicentre of one of the major tourism events in North Andaman. The resort is located close to some of the big tourism destinations on the island. Its luxury beachfront location and island ambience make it an ideal location for international gatherings.
